April 2016 – Quick meeting roundup

We had a lovely surprise on Sunday with 3 new guests, Becky, Catherine and Michael. We hope you had a good time and look forward to seeing you again at our Scifantor meetings.

May Event…

Market with a difference on May 7th, House of Fandom is combining with Fortitude Valley Markets for a huge pop culture and alternative market. Click here to view facebook link.

One liner…

Brett said, ‘Never let the truth get in the way of a good insult!’.

Some of the discussions on Sunday in brief…

On coverart – it has to be good. Yes we really do judge a book by its cover.

On blurbs – it has to be more than 2 lines, descriptive and really sell your book.

On different ways that Indie authors can promote themselves – apart from Supanova.

On authors that write with the goal of commercial success and trying to stay on trend. A better goal would be to write ahead of the trend, if you could only predict what the next trend will be.

What have the Scifantorites been up to…

Brett and David are both happy now that a major stressful event is over and done with. They feel they can move on with their lives now. Congratulations and well done for surviving the events and remaining the true gentlemen that you both are…

Kim has been busy this month with a table at both the Supanova events in Melbourne and the Gold Coast. Kim found out that one of her fans has been writing fan fiction. If you happen to know where we can find it on the internet drop us a line. Kim has also confirmed that she will be going to the US this year.

Cherie… looking forward to your micro fiction next month, Food, Renovations and Porn, interesting combination.

Janis… May’s microfiction ‘Renovations’ is in your honor. We really hope you can make it to May’s meeting.

Brad… we missed you again on Sunday. Hope to see you in May.

Zane… we missed you as well. You need to put in an appearance.

What have the Scifantorites been reading, watching…

J.C Wright           Count to a Trillion            Comment: not the most enthralling book. Should have been a 2 book series.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice     2016                     Brett’s comment was that this movie was the longest trailer he had ever slept through. The story was incredibly weak – could not believe that Batman’s back story had been changed.

TV Series

Season 1              2014 Hunters               Comment: weak
