About Scifantor

Are you an author who enjoys writing science fiction, fantasy, or horror? Maybe you would like to be, but don’t know where to start? Perhaps you’ve stalled somewhere in your creative process.

We are a bunch of friendly folk who enjoy sharing and critiquing our work. We like to inspire and encourage others. We want to hear your thoughts, questions, and concerns.

Come along to our next meeting! They’re held on the third Sunday of every month… We look forward to meeting you 🙂

scifantor (ˈsī-fan-tȯr – noun)

  • A mythical being, forged in fire. Sub-species of the phoenix. Birthing fire is a pyre of books.
  • A portmanteau of science fiction, fantasy, and horror
  • A group based on the Gold Coast, Australia, for writers of speculative fiction

Mission Statement

To encourage, promote, and inspire the writers of science fiction, fantasy, and horror.

Goals

* monthly informal meetings on the Gold Coast
* provide a safe, encouraging, and supportive environment for writers
* inspire our authors to write by having a microfiction challenge every month
* feed the hungry minds of Scifantor fans by providing new fiction online, every month
* share knowledge and experience amongst ourselves to enhance our writing skills

Independent Authors

As independent authors, we’ve also been known to discuss topics and share experiences relating to self publishing, on the odd occasion. Book marketing and promotion, editing, digital publishing, tax issues, and formatting of eBooks and hardcopies… these are just a few of the areas we’ve broached.

Summary

Are you sick of ‘groups’ that are just lectures and workshops in disguise? Are you fed up with narcissistic control freaks monopolising the conversation? Are you looking for a group you can participate in, not just attend? Look no further

If you’re a local, why not join us? Our meetings are open to writers of all levels, from dabblers to professionals and every stage in between. A gold coin donation is appreciated, but not expected

Remember: Scifantor is a beast! We are all just avatars of its greatness.
